Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve final poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest players anywhere in the world. While gambling on web poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus frequently competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus frequently buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is penniless, he has no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy in.
Buying in for the min takes most of the ability out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the full dollar value. I believe television can alter our perception of the real world sometimes. The greatest poker players in the world might just be players you have never heard of. Gus can be found participating in online poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in high stakes omaha high and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in money games?
