Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player in the world by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse comments from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
He began playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors in each session of poker and always strives to improve.
Although Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
