Howard Lederer lived in a family of five where he liked betting on numerous card games at a young age. He discovered himself becoming very aggressive in the above-mentioned card games as he was playing his dad. After graduating from secondary school, Howard decided to place higher education on hold for a little bit and moved away to New York City to compete in some serious chess. While playing chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s first two years were rough as he played extensive hours and lost a majority of the time. He made some extra money by becoming an assistant for the poker players. He theorized he could better his game by adjusting his life away from poker. He brought about an effort to acquire more rest and focus even more on poker.
The definite improvement in his game happened when he started betting at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable gamblers would regularly compete against one another. He had access into a number of the best minds in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would sharpen his logical thinking abilities. He applied these strategic concepts to the game of No-Limit texas hold’em.
He also helped his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. She was a superb student of the game as she would always be asking questions about how to make the correct choice. Howard told Annie to head out to Vegas and compete in the World Series of Poker tournaments. She is one of the greatest women players the poker world ever. Howard Lederer headed to Las Vegas in 1993 and competed in money games for the next 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, Howard made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
