Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the closing poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a massive pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best bettors anywhere in the world. While gambling on web poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He often plays in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He waits for a decent hand and then goes all in. I know Gus is an excellent poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes most of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I think tv can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The best players in the world might be players you have will not have heard of. Gus can be found participating in net poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in high stakes omaha hi-low and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in cash rounds?
