Web Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to achieve closing table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. He won a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest bettors around the world. While betting on net poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He often competes in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all in. I know Gus is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has little or no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy-in.

Buying in for the minimum takes a majority of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be 1 of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full dollar value. I believe television can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world may be guys you have will not have heard about. Gus can be seen playing net poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in big stakes omaha hi-low and hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in cash rounds?
