Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to make it to the final table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world. While gambling on internet poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He regularly participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Hansen is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is broke, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the min buy in.
Playing for the min takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is accepted to be 1 of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total amt.. I think tv can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The best poker players in the world may be players you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be seen competing in web poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in big stakes omaha/8 and Holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in money games?
