Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 where he loved gambling on different card games at a young age. He found himself becoming very competitive in these particular card games while competing against his father. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to put college on hold for a little while and moved to New York to compete in some formidable chess. While participating in chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s 1st two years were difficult as he played many hours and don’t win most times. He made some additional cash by being an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he could better his game by adjusting his life outside of poker. He brought about an attempt to acquire more sleep and focus attention more on the game.

The definite advancement in his skills began when he began playing at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best gamblers would regularly wager against each other. Howard had access into a number of the foremost players in chess. With their assistance, Howard would hone his cunning thinking skills. Howard used these strategic concepts in the game of No-Limit texas hold’em.

Howard Lederer also helped his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. She was a superb student of the game as she constantly asked questions about how to make the proper decision. Howard Lederer told Annie Duke to head out to Las Vegas and play in the World Series of Poker tournaments. She is one of the best women players the poker arena has ever seen. He headed to Vegas in 1993 and played cash games for the next 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, Howard made the decision to play more tournaments.
