Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to make it to the last game in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest gamblers anywhere in the world. While playing internet poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He often plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He waits for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I believe Gus is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is broke, he has little or no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy in.
Buying in for the minimum takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I believe tv can alter our view of the real world at times. The greatest players in the world might just be guys you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be seen gambling on internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in high stakes omaha hold’em and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in money games?
