Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complicated but well-loved poker variations. It’s a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once obscure game, has expanded in acceptance so amazingly.
Omaha hi low begins like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to each player. A round of wagering follows in which gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. Three cards are given out, this is known as the flop. A further sequence of betting happens. After all the players have in turn called or dropped out, an additional card is revealed on the turn. a further round of wagering happens at which point the river card is revealed. The entrants must attempt to make the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where a few players get flustered. Unlike Texas Holdem, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/lo the player has to use exactly three cards from the board, and precisely two hole cards. No more, no less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the best possible hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the identical concept in just about all poker games.
A low hand is more complicated, but really free’s up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that could be put together, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the higher hand takes the entire pot.
It may seem difficult initially, after a few rounds you will be able to pick up on the base nuances of the game simply enough. Seeing as you have players wagering for the low and betting for the high, and since such a large number of cards are being used at the same time, Omaha 8 or better offers an amazing collection of wagering options and seeing that you have many players trying for the high, as well as many shooting for the low hand.
