Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complex but favored poker games. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once obscure game, has grown in popularity so quickly.
Omaha 8 or better begins just like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to each player. A round of betting ensues where players can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are dealt out, this is referred to as the flop. One more sequence of betting happens. After all the players have in turn called or folded, an additional card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of betting ensues and then the river card is revealed. The players must attempt to put together the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where a number of entrants often get confused. Contrasted to Texas Hold ‘Em, in which the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player has to use precisely three cards from the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. A low hand is the weakest hand that might be made, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there is no low hand presented, the high hand wins the whole pot.
It may seem difficult at first, after a few hands you will be agile enough to get the base nuances of the game simply enough.
