Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup everything he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the negative comments from others destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
