Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 in which he loved gambling on numerous card games at a young age. He found himself becoming really aggressive in these card games while playing his dad. After graduating from high school, Howard made a decision to put college on hold for a bit and headed to New York City to play some big-time chess. While participating in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s initial 2 years were difficult as he would play countless hours and lost most times. He made some additional cash by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he possibly could improve his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He made an effort to acquire more rest and focus attention even more on the game.

The definite improvement in his skills began when he started gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best gamblers would regularly challenge one another. He had access into a few of the greatest players in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would hone his cunning thinking skills. Howard applied these strategy concepts to the game of NL Texas Holdem.

Howard also assisted his sister Annie Duke master poker. She was an excellent student of the game as she constantly asked questions about how to make the correct choice. Howard told Annie to move out to Las Vegas and play in the WSOP competition. Annie Duke is one of the strongest women players the poker world has ever seen. Howard relocated to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and played cash games for the following decade. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, he decided to compete in more tournaments.
